How To Overcome Fear Of Failure In Your Career | 5 Tips

If you’ve been dreaming of doing something you love and making a career out of it, but you’ve holding back from making a move, you might be struggling with fear of failure. I want to share with you 5 tips on how to overcome fear of failure in your career.

When I wanted to quit my full time job to move to Indonesia and start my entrepreneurship journey, fear of failure haunted me every day. If I hadn’t overcome my fear of failure, I wouldn’t have been able to travel freely around the world as a digital nomad, do what I love, and get paid for it.

By learning how to deal with fear of failure, just like me you’ll also be able to overcome your fear and make the career of your dreams your reality.

#1. Acknowledge your fear of failure in your career

First you have to acknowledge that it’s there. Stop bullshitting yourself with other lame excuses that sound like:

‘it’s not the right time for me’
‘I don’t have time’
‘I can’t do it’
‘I don’t have money’
‘I don’t have the skills’

Your ego makes up those excuses to justify why you’re not taking action. So you try to hide behind these justifications instead of acknowledging that you’re scared shitless of failing in your career.

It’s okay to have fear of failure and it doesn’t mean that you’re weak. It means that you’re human. Acknowledging that you have fear of failure is the first step towards dealing with it, and therefore overcoming it.

#2. Realize that it’s just an emotion

Fear of failure is an emotion that we all encounter throughout life one way or another. No matter what you’re doing with your life, you’ve experienced it.

This uncomfortable feeling has stopped millions of people from taking the necessary steps to follow their hearts and creating the career of their dreams.

But when you realize that it’s actually just an uncomfortable feeling, it loses some of its power over you.

I mean seriously, is dealing with an unpleasant emotion scary enough to hold you back from living your best life?

#3. Understand why you fear failure in your career

You need to become mindful of why you fear failure in your career. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to understand the reason why you fear failure:

  • What would it mean if I fail in my career?
  • Why is this a problem for me?
  • What must I believe about myself?

The answers to these questions will shed light on the reasons why you actually fear failure and what’s really holding you back from taking a leap of faith and following the career of your dreams.

#4. Do the inner work

Once you figure out why you really fear failure in your career, you can start doing the inner work so you can free yourself from these limitations. Each and every one of us has some kind of shit we need to deal with or some unresolved trauma.

Doing the inner work will help you shed light on your belief system that dictates your life choices and decisions. When you heal what you needed to heal, and connect with your inner spirit, you’ll be able to find strength within you that moves mountains.

You can tell fear of failure to fuck off because you know that even if you fail, you are strong enough to bounce back and be better, stronger, and wiser.

#5. Trust in yourself & overcome fear of failure

If you don’t learn how to trust yourself, you’re going to have a hard time overcoming fear of failure, not only in your career, but also in your personal life.

Having trust in yourself empowers you to take action. And even if you’re scared, you’ll still be able to find the strength within you to keep moving forward. You don’t let fear hold you back from taking the necessary steps to get you where you want to be.

Trusting your intuition and your gut feeling means that you are in connection with your inner spirit. Even though fear is a powerful emotion, it’s way less powerful than your spirit.

Having a strong and deep connection with your spiritual self empowers you to overcome fear of failure in your career and start living your best life.
