Pop-culture on manifesting our own reality
In the last 5 years, the interest in self-care and wellbeing has been gradually rising. Social media trends on spirituality, manifestation, creative visualization and other so called woo-woo practices are gathering millions of views and followers. I’m not against any of these. However, I do believe that one should explain these concepts eloquently and responsibly.
Let’s take one example of a self-help book called ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne published back in 2006. This book is about the law of attraction, and it sheds light on the power of thought and positive thinking.
Her book sold more than 35 million copies worldwide. I didn’t read the book, but I’ve watched the movie/documentary more than once. The first time I watched it, I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I found it difficult to understand how my thoughts could actually manifest and shape my reality.
When I started to experiment with this concept, I started seeing things manifest in my reality. And that’s when I started digging deeper into this statement. However, the book in itself, just like many other manifestation gurus on social media, doesn’t really explain how these things work.
So many people end up being misled. They either assume that by thinking and focusing on something or someone, they will magically show up in their life. Or they completely disregard this concept because they see it as a mystical theory. So they carry on with their life, missing out on a great opportunity to change their life and manifest great things.
So thinking positively is not enough to manifest my own reality?
Cultivating a positive mindset is a powerful way to help you manifest your reality. Whatever you focus on in life grows and expands. However, if your inner core beliefs are not aligned with what you’re focusing on, you won’t be able to manifest.
This can be confusing and many people get discouraged and just give up on manifesting. Because even though they consciously focus on thinking positively, their unconscious limiting beliefs say otherwise and they get stuck. If you have inner conflict, you are not fully aligned with your vision. So what can we do to manifest our own reality?
Becoming aware of our inner core beliefs and map of the world is the first step towards creating what you really want in life. By shedding light on these limiting beliefs, you can understand where they’re coming from, and understand yourself at a deeper level. That way you can work on letting go of these limiting beliefs to align yourself with what you really want to manifest.
Our limiting beliefs are subtle and discreet. However, they run the show without us being aware of it. These self-limitations end up manifesting in our reality and strongly affect our life choices.
To stick to the same example, if Rhonda Byrne had the intention of writing a book, but didn’t believe she was able to do it, she wouldn’t have written it. Moreover, if she pushed herself to write the book through positive thinking, yet her inner core belief was that no one would want to read it, she wouldn’t have invested her money in publishing and marketing her book.
So developing a positive mindset is the first step to inspire you to take action. Followed by breaking through your limiting beliefs. This will help you feel ready to take a leap of faith and trust in yourself to manifest your own reality. And that’s where the magic happens!
Okay…so how do you manifest your own reality?
I’ve had my own experiences with the law of attraction, so there is truth in it. Scientific evidence shows that everything in nature vibrates at different frequencies. Like attracts like, which is exactly what the law of attraction is about.
A negative thought gives rise to another negative thought. Negative thoughts make you feel bad about yourself and you start perceiving the world from a negative perspective. When you are feeling fearful, low and discouraged, you are less likely to take action, be creative, motivated, and productive.
On the other hand, a positive thought encourages another positive thought, which cultivates a positive feeling. A positive feeling creates a positive mood. When you have a positive mood, you are more likely to be creative, have spontaneous ideas, and think of new ways and opportunities.
This motivates you and inspires you to take action. And you start manifesting your thoughts and vision into matter by the act of doing. One could say that you manifested your reality by thinking positive thoughts and having a positive mindset. Your positive state of being inspired you to take the right actions…But you also need to take it a step further. By letting go of your limiting beliefs, and reconstructing the way you perceive yourself and the world around you.
And how do you do that? By doing the inner work and shifting your perception! You have to open yourself up to new possibilities. To get different results, you need to make different choices!
Manifesting your own reality is not just a matter of rethinking and focusing on the same thoughts. You need to take aligned action with your intentions and beliefs to manifest your reality. If Rhonda Byrne stayed in her room visualizing her book into reality, it wouldn’t have been magically created. She had to write down each and every word, believe in herself, find a publisher and make it happen.

Experimental exercises to create your own reality
Our brains are designed in a way to perceive reality according to our beliefs. We mistake our thoughts and beliefs for being the ultimate truth. When you do the inner work and let go of a belief which is not benefiting you in your life, you realize that what you thought to be true, was actually just your perception.
So if you believe that you are unworthy of love, whether you’re conscious of this belief or not, it doesn’t matter. You will constantly and unconsciously attract people into your life who reaffirm this belief.
If you show up for an interview and you don’t feel confident and good enough to get the job, you get filled with anxiety and self-doubt. Your own fear and anxiety lower your performance and affect how you present yourself during the interview. And guess what…? You won’t get the job. Which re-affirms to you that you are not good enough.
If you are needy and feel unworthy of love, your clinginess and neediness in a relationship will drive your partner away from you. Your biggest fear of being unloved manifested in your reality driven by your own fearful thoughts, beliefs, and actions. This would also re-affirm your belief that you are truly unworthy of love and that you are right in believing so.
I invite you to experiment with this and challenge your belief system. You can start by taking small steps. Choose something you would like to focus on. Focus your attention on it for a couple of days and you will see that it will start to show up more often in your life.
When you start feeling more confident, you can move on to bigger things in your life. Try it out for yourself and see how it works out for you. It’s fun and exciting discovering that you have the power to create your own reality. This is how I got into manifestation. And I found it to be a phenomenon that shifted my entire life!
